2025-10-13 10:06 | News, Green activities

The Bank of Mongolia presented its experience in conducting a climate scenario analysis for the banking sector at the Asia–Pacific NDC Clinic, held on 10–11 September 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand, at the United Nations Conference Centre. The event was jointly organized by the NDC Partnership, GIZ, UNEP, UNDP, and UNESCAP, in collaboration with the UNFCCC secretariat.

Representing the Bank of Mongolia, Ms. Urgamalsuvd Nanjid, Division Head at the Monetary Policy Department, delivered a presentation titled “A Climate Scenario Analysis for the Banking Sector in Mongolia.” Her presentation outlined the Bank’s pioneering bottom-up climate scenario analysis conducted in collaboration with UN ESCAP under the Readiness Support for Greening the Bank of Mongolia project, supported by the NDC Partnership since 2023.

Even though climate change is a global challenge, its local impacts are shaped by both global emission trajectories and the degree of national preparedness. Acknowledging the complexity and uncertainty of climate-related risks, she underscored the importance of forward-looking scenario analysis as a strategic tool for identifying potential financial vulnerabilities and strengthening risk management across the banking sector.

The Asia–Pacific NDC Clinic brought together representatives from ministries of environment, finance, economy, and energy, as well as central banks and national development banks, to exchange insights on NDC implementation, financing strategies, and inter-ministerial coordination. The Bank of Mongolia’s contribution showcased the growing role of financial regulators in aligning monetary and prudential policies with national climate priorities and the Paris Agreement goals.
