Governor of the Bank of Mongolia S. Narantsogt Participates in the High-Level Sustainable Finance Forum 2026

Governor of the Bank of Mongolia S. Narantsogt participated today (19 August 2026) in the “High-Level Sustainable Finance Forum 2026,” an official special event of the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17).
Over the course of the two-day forum, participants are discussing policies, innovative financial instruments, and partnership opportunities to connect Mongolia’s goals on land, water, pasture, climate, and biodiversity with tangible investments. Discussions also focus on expanding long-term financing for nature conservation and strengthening coordination between public budgets, private investment, and market-based financial instruments.

In his opening remarks, Governor S. Narantsogt emphasized that climate change and environmental risks can affect the economy both directly and indirectly, posing potential risks to price stability and financial stability. He noted that identifying the transmission channels through which these risks affect the economy and financial sector, and building a resilient and sustainable financial system, has become an important policy priority.
Although countries differ in their geographical location, level of development, economic structure, and available resources, the challenges arising from climate change and environmental degradation are shared issues that transcend national borders and the mandates of individual institutions. Therefore, he emphasized at the forum that these challenges cannot be addressed by any single country or institution alone, underscoring the importance of international cooperation and coordinated solutions.
“The challenges are shared, and their solutions must also be built together. That is why we have all gathered here, united by a common purpose,” emphasized S.Narantsogt, Governor of the Bank of Mongolia.

He further highlighted the vital role of the financial sector in this collective effort. Restoring degraded land, strengthening water security, and protecting ecosystems require substantial investment, and financing is one of the key enablers for turning policies and initiatives into concrete action. In this regard, effectively mobilizing and aligning public budget resources, private capital, and international development finance is essential for transforming sustainable development goals into real investments and measurable outcomes.
